Our Rally New Zealand Experiences.
We are just back from stage timing for Rally of NZ. (Using good old
#2, ACE the HiAce, which has now done 1017000 - 1 million 17 thousand
kms).
There were the four of us, James , Zac
and Quinten and myself Warwick of course.
I got the boys off school for the Friday with proper 'leave of
absence' and we were 'out of the gate' here about 6.30 a.m., drove to
Raglan and had to set all the gear up for the midday service at
Raglan Airfield.
We decamped there about 3 p.m.(after dismantling the towers, the ezyups
and all then other drama).
Drove to Auckland through 5 p.m. traffic and set everything up again
at the Viaduct Basin (in the dark I might add) .
At 9.p.m. we dismantled and decamped from there and went up to stay
at a camping ground at Orewa arriving just after 10 p.m.
Next morning (Sat) we left there at 6.30 a.m. and drove to Whangarei
where we setup AGAIN.
After the cars left at 3 we decamped (again)
and drove back to Viaduct Basin and setup again!
We dismantled and decamped again just before 10 p.m. and went back to
the camping ground.
Next morning (Sunday) we had to be back 'on site in Auckland' at 5
a.m., so the boys got up at 3 a.m. so they could have showers before
we left at 4.15 a.m.
We setup again at Viaduct basin, timed cars in (and out) three times
that day - dismantled and decamped just before 5 p.m. but instead of
heading straight home I shouted the boys dinner at Happy Days.
We got home about 10 p.m. Sunday night and it would be true to say
that I was 'somewhat tired'.
Monday morning when I took James down to the bus he said "you might
as well go back to bed Dad - I'm going to sleep on the bus".
I thought I might just have a 'lie down; but did actually go back to
bed.
Poor old James he had a Maths test thrown at him 1st period !!!
An event like this is one where we look forward to it eagerly but boy
are we glad when it is over!
We shall be doing Rally Gisborne at the end of August, and
are already commited to doing Rally of the North in October!
