Although leading a very busy life I once again made contact with my old school and became a very active volunteer there.
With my electrical skills I was now able to help John Cumming prepare and build lighting rigs for the opera, made friends with a lot of the boys and really enjoyed my time being back.
Whilst there we had the 50th jubilee with people returning from all over the world, a concert on the oval etc.
I am not sure just which year it was but the then Governor General asked if we could possibly do a 'Royal Command Performance' of the opera.
At that stage we were still using the Embassy which as a movie theatre was less than ideal requiring massive work just to convert to stage a live production.
I feel it a privilege to even be asked for my opinion.
It was, however, decided that it was just too hard!
Subsequently of course we moved the opera to Founders theatre which was set up,for stage shows.
I continued to help with the operas for some years.
I think it was at about that time 3 MPs were Southwell Old Boys and even 2 cabinet ministers.
What a record for a school of 100 boys.
